Suicide Prevention
The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is 988 800-273-8255. This is a United States-based suicide prevention network of 161 crisis centers that provides a 24/7, toll-free hotline available to anyone in suicidal crisis or emotional distress.
According to The World Health Organization, approximately 1 million people die each year from suicide. Depression, despair, physical pain, emotional pain, PTSD, financial ruin, bullying, loss of a loved one from death or divorce, being subjected to tyrant managers, harassment, belittlement in the workplace or school, oppression, domestic abuse at home, hunger, poverty, and constant negativity are only the tip of what drives those with suicidal tendencies to see no other option.
A means to escape suffering, that a person may find unbearable is desperation. Feeling isolated, hopeless, being paranoid, and believing that others perceive you as being less or loathing through taunting and social media have escalated a false sense of reality for those vulnerable and targets.
There are root causes. Once a seed has been planted, external factors affect how that seed grows. From a clinical viewpoint a person’s attitude toward what they see and hear, how they perceive and deal with what they see and hear will determine the outcome of the seed’s growth and health.
The brave Men & Women that risk their lives to protect our country and us have a heavy toll on their emotional state and well being. Too many return from duty with varying physical disabilities. Those scars impact them and their families for the rest of their lives. Once in the armed forces they can not leave with out punishment, discharge or death.
Students cannot always leave a school for another school or home schooling. There are too many instances of teachers and administrators that single out students for public humiliation and self-gratification. This behavior, is bullying and predatory, that sets an atmosphere for those in attendance that bullying and being a predator is ok. This is never ok. Any instance should be reported, reported again, and again, and then called out until the person/s responsible are punished or removed. Publicly naming those, in a teaching capacity, and their superiors has set a new precedence for those in that environment, that preying on or bullying children will no longer be tolerated. In my family there are two children, one in a parochial school, and the other in a public school, in two separate counties that have been publicly humiliated repeatedly in front of their peers, in classrooms by teachers stating they are dumb and not responsible. Speaking with the teachers and their superiors has not stopped the problem. The parents and students should be grading the teachers and administration before the “State” and their superior authority does. A background check of staff and administration would be a valuable tool for parents looking for the best school for their children. Having a background check of staff and administration for parents to use would enforce accountability for all. It is true, that a small fraction of teachers, administrators, management, and leadership, tarnishes the entirety of that structured environment.
Some cannot quit their job. The work place bullies know that and prey on the weak and those they feel may be a threat to their position. It is not easy to have bullies removed in a workplace setting, especially in the services, and manufacturing industry. The “Me Too Movement” has opened a view into the world of hell that our society had turned a blind eye to. The problems go deeper than “Me Too”. Tyrant, oppressive, abusive, bullying management personnel, have led to unjust firing, unjust denial of promotions, raises, belittling, threats, verbal abuse, health issues and physical abuse. The allowance of this behavior sets an atmosphere that creates an understanding to individuals who do not condone the behavior, will be the next victim. It is true, that a small fraction of administrators, management, and leadership, tarnishes the entirety of that structured environment. When there is a large turnover of personnel there is a commonality and a root cause. Society has turned a blind eye to bullying and abuse of power in work places way too long. For many there is nowhere to turn to for resolution or help.
Many with suicidal tendencies feel conflicted about ending their life. Many seek an alternative to suicide, but they just can't find one. You, the coworker, the student, the neighbor, the by-stander, and the friend can make a difference by speaking up, reporting what you know and doing what you can to help. Everyone matters. Be the one that makes a difference for the betterment of all.
Keep a smile on your face. Treat everyone with decency and respect. Don't allow others to take advantage of your well being. When someone or a group of someone's actions deliberately work to diminish your smile, look through them, show no emotion, and stand your ground, move away from them. In today's society there is a good chance they are on "Candid Camera".
